Help young children develop critical thinking skills with open-ended problems, for which there is no one correct answer.
Working in small groups, children use readily available manipulatives to explore various solutions and describe their answers through writing and drawing. Each activity page can be reused multiple times, using larger numbers as children become more adept at working with small numbers. A fun and engaging way to promote mathematical thinking!
Author Biography
Rosenburg began teaching first grade in Fresno, California, in 1989. She has a master's degree in education counseling as well as a cross-cultural language and academic certificate. From 1994 through 1997, Mary was a mentor teacher, working with first-year teachers and experienced teachers new to first grade. She has also been a master teacher for students in the credential program at California State University, Fresno.
