The Priest and His Disciples is a play written by Hyakuzo Kurata in 1922. The story is set in Japan and follows the life of a Buddhist priest named Kanda who is struggling to maintain his faith in the midst of societal changes. Kanda is confronted by three of his disciples who challenge his beliefs and question his authority. The play explores themes of religion, tradition, and modernity, as well as the conflicts that arise when old ways clash with new ideas. The characters grapple with issues of identity, morality, and the meaning of life as they navigate their relationships with each other and with the changing world around them. The Priest and His Disciples is a thought-provoking and introspective work that offers insight into the complexities of Japanese culture and society during a time of transition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
