How did an innocent children's tale become an underground adult classic? Peter Heath lets the Cheshire cat out of the bag in The Philosopher's Alice, his guide to Lewis Carroll's Alice books. In doing so, he proves that beneath an exterior of nonsense and absurdity, the work's central concern is with the bounds of sense and the limitations of reason.
Containing the full text of both Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, along with the classic illustrations of John Tenniel, The Philosopher's Alice takes the reader on a journey through the thickets of philosophical blunders, logical fallacies, conceptual confusions, and linguistic breakdowns that decorate the landscape of Alice's world. Peter Heath's delightful commentary brings Carroll's classic works into conversation with modern philosophy and is full of surprising insights, so that even the most dedicated lover of the Alice books will see them in a new light.
This Angelico Press edition of a work long out of print also features a new foreword by Mark Burstein, President Emeritus of The Lewis Carroll Society of North America.
