She lives in Minnesota, raised in Pennsylvania, the fifth of seven children born into a strong Christian and working-class family. Both of her parents were born in Georgia to parents who often told stories about their grandparents' experience with slavery and the families' strong work ethic, religious grounding, and value of education. B. Butts Williams' love of reading and writing started at an early age. While in junior high school she wrote fantasy stories about another world and magic. In 2018, she began writing fiction again after 60 years -fulfilling the desires of her inner child.
