The Gentleman's New Jockey, a compilation of the newest animal husbandry techniques and remedies of 1700, suggests using a broken sword blade to scrape sweat from one's horse, provides directions for inserting lead into a horse's forehead to create a white star, and examines the zodiac signs and lucky dates on which to administer important medical or breeding procedures. From horse-racing to breeding sheep, healing ointments to recipes for poison that blinds mice, this work offers a comprehensive guide to maintaining various livestock animals. This edition covers the horse industry, training, breeding, medicinal practices; killing vermin; and management of cattle, sheep, and swine. Published in London in 1700, The Gentleman's New Jockey acts as a manual for the eighteenth-century farmer and horseman.
