Sami Frashëri, a prominent Albanian Ottoman scholar, wrote this treatise during a time when European colonial powers were conquering and dividing the Muslim world, leading to the diminishing influence of the Ottoman caliphate amid rising nationalism. The work covers topics such as the history and rapid expansion of Islam, the challenges faced by Muslim nations, and their contributions to science and civilization. Frashëri dedicated this concise treatise to the brave Muslims who advanced Islam despite significant obstacles. This is the 2nd edition of the first English translation of his 19th-century discourse, offering a valuable perspective on world history from a Muslim viewpoint.
"This masterful translation by Flamur Vehapi brings to a wider audience one of the most concise yet profound summaries of the history of the Islamic world. Sami Frashëri, a 19th-century Albanian Ottoman scholar, philosopher, lexicographer, and polymath, has left an indelible mark on both Ottoman and Albanian intellectual history ... May this translation serve as a bridge between past and present, East and West, fostering greater understanding of the rich history and enduring contributions of Islam to humanity." -Didmar Faja, author of Echoes of the Prophet Also by Flamur VehapiBerke Khan of the Golden Horde, 2024
