The Arctic Sonata: The Courage To Rise is the inspiring memoir of Maureen Girard, a Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling pianist and composer. From a childhood shaped by music and family in the vibrant New York metropolitan area to unexpected challenges that uprooted her life, Maureen's journey is a testament to the power of unwavering determination and artistic passion.
Stripped of her beloved piano and forced to navigate a "strange land" in Las Vegas, Maureen found solace in music and the world of show business, fostered by her Uncle Eddie. Her path led her across continents, through unexpected encounters-from waitressing in dimly lit jazz clubs to an astonishing and dangerous expedition to the high Arctic.
This gripping narrative chronicles Maureen's relentless pursuit of her dream to become a professional pianist, even when faced with financial struggles, personal setbacks, and unforeseen perils. It's a story of self-discovery, resilience, and ultimately, finding profound meaning as a dedicated music educator who champions the transformative power of music for children and adults alike.
With a foreword by David Lanz, The Arctic Sonata offers a deeply personal and inspiring account of how one woman, fueled by an unbreakable spirit and a lifelong love for music, found her courage to rise above every obstacle and create a life rich with purpose and harmony.
