This book invites you to fold the giants of the ancient world.
Within these pages, you will learn to fold 35 dinosaurs, each formed from a single square sheet of paper. Every design captures a unique personality-gentle giants, fearsome hunters, and steadfast defenders-brought to life through thoughtful folds and careful shaping. While the models range from simple to complex, most are designed at an intermediate level. Curious beginners will find much to enjoy, and experienced folders will appreciate the creativity and challenge throughout.
All of the models are original designs by origami master John Montroll. Each dinosaur begins with a photograph and a brief introduction to set the stage. Clear, step-by-step illustrations guide you through every fold. Great care has been taken to keep each model as simple as possible while preserving the details that give it character and presence.
Your journey through deep time unfolds across five chapters:
Welcome to the Ancient World - From a baby dinosaur to a young Stegosaurus, these simpler models introduce key techniques and prepare you for the adventure ahead.
Long-Necked Titans - A procession of mighty sauropods leads you deeper into prehistoric lands, where balance, proportion, and sweeping forms take center stage.
The Great Two-Legged Walkers - Powerful theropods stride forward with energy and authority, challenging the folder to capture motion, strength, and presence.
Wings Over the Ancient World - Take to the skies with four pterosaurs and explore the ancient shores and forests.
Crests, Plates, and Horned Legends - Meet some of the most celebrated dinosaurs, adorned with dramatic ornaments that challenge your precision and reward careful shaping.
Enter the ancient world.
