Playing in a Broadway pit is only one part of being a professional musician in New York City, and it's definitely exciting. Broadway Bound and Beyond gives a real look at that life, both in the pit and beyond.
This streamlined roadmap explains how musicians build lasting careers in ways you won't find anywhere else. Drawing on decades of Broadway experience and hundreds of interviews with working musicians, contractors, and music directors, Clayton Craddock explains what the job really demands and how musicians can start building those skills today.
Inside, readers will learn how musicians break into the business of Broadway, what is required during rehearsals, tech, subbing, and eight-show weeks, how preparation and strong people skills build trust, and what to expect when shows open, close without warning, or go on tour.
Most people see Broadway from the audience. Few know what goes on backstage or what it really takes to build a career there. This book offers a straightforward, realistic look at musical theater, focusing on longevity rather than fame.
Broadway Bound and Beyond is an essential resource for college music programs, conservatories, and working musicians who want sustainable careers in musical theater, in New York City and beyond.
