What Happens When a Hong Kong Girl Moves to the United States: A Memoir
Follow Flora's journey of falling in love with a foreign man, her grief of moving away from her hometown, and her finding acceptance and a sense of home in America.
Flora unravels the layers of emotions of leaving home and relocating three times in a decade - from being a Hong Kong city girl to slowing down to the gentle warmth and hospitality of Minnesota Nice, to later adapting to the laid-back island life of Maui, Hawaii, and eventually adjusting back to Hong Kong.
She and her husband were inspired to take a year off to travel across America, during which she learned about American culture, lifestyles, and values.
In her endearing voice and her humorous comics, Flora presents an honest story of being an immigrant in America, the desire to fit in, the resilience to try new things, the humbleness to start from the bottom, and the joy of pursuing the American Dream by starting her own business.
By the final page, you will feel more curious about other cultures, and more courageous, having learned that starting over can lead to belonging-wherever you are.
