A Muse in Disguise: How Heartbreak Inspires Creativity explores how a handful of history's most renowned artists, poets and philosophers respond while falling in and out of love. Through this philosophical lens, we see heartbreak with new eyes. The myth of Ariadne lights our path, while our guides, poets Petrarch, Neruda, Salinas, and Lorca, visual artists de Chirico, and Dalí, and philosopher Nietzsche reveal their hearts' desires, darkest moments and deepest secrets through their words and their art. By analyzing the myth and poetry and studying the visual art, we see how talented men show us the many faces of love. They are blissful and they suffer. They retreat and they advance. They give up and they endure. Together, they walk us through the heights and depths of longing, loving and losing.
