His first book, \u003ci\u003eMen Without Women: Masculinity and Revolution in Russian Fiction, 1917-1919\u003c\/i\u003e, won the AATSEEL award for best work in literary scholarship in 2000. In 2007, he published\u003ci\u003e Overkill: Sex and Violence in Contemporary Russian Popular Culture\u003c\/i\u003e, which received the AWSS award for best book in Slavic Gender Studies in 2008. His is also the author of \u003ci\u003ePlots Against Russia: Conspiracy and Fantasy after Socialism\u003c\/i\u003e (2009) and \u003ci\u003ePussy Riot\u003c\/i\u003e (Bloomsbury, 2020).
