He published \u003ci\u003eThe Learning Tree, \u003c\/i\u003e a novel, in 1963, and three previous autobiographies, \u003ci\u003eA Choice of Weapons, To Smile in Autumn, \u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eVoices in the Mirror.\u003c\/i\u003e He died in March 2006 at his home in Manhattan.
